Difference between feelings and emotions

I have to share this quote Harry said to me today because he has taught me a lot about how he views things. But also this makes complete sense and I hadn’t thought of it before, but to me I think he has just summed up how he masks.

I was talking to him about how it’s acceptable to feel various emotions, especially during transitions becomes we may feel more than one thing at a time. But that others maybe experiencing the same feelings.

It was then that he turned to me and said:

Feelings are what your emotions look like on the outside, which means people may choose not to show them or disguise them.

But your emotions are really how you feel and sometimes that’s just stored within you, where no one can see.

To be honest mum, I think feelings and emotions are very different and can be confusing for people to understand”.

This makes great sense to me and what he means, which has made me realise I need to reword our conversations when dealing with feelings and emotions.

So when I have said to him previously in our conversations “we can feel all kinds of emotions”

I can actually imagine him thinking well not really mum, because you can choose to feel a certain way to hide your emotions😅. A lesson learnt for me tonight and how I talk about this in the future.
